Colchis Pastoral was established as a family farm by David Cowle and his wife, Allison Ritchie in 2004. Since that time the enterprise has operated as a busy working farm focussing on wool and meat sheep, cattle and cropping.
The farm is located at Runnymede in Tasmania’s south-east where David’s family has farmed for many generations.
For this reason, there is an important connection to the land and everything is undertaking with devotion, a high-value, low-impact, sustainable approach to farm practices and an eye to future generations.
Runnymede has seen industries such as plantations and mining establish over recent times, however, the area remains rich in grazing history with local families continuing farming traditions.
Agriculture is a powerhouse of the Australian economy and plays an equally significant role in Tasmanian economic and community life. Australian farmers produce about $60 billion worth of goods each year and the agriculture supply chain supports 1.6 million jobs with the majority family owned and operated. David and Allison enjoy be part of this vitally important industry.
